India puts BSF on high alert along Pakistan border

NEW DELHI, Jan 11 (APP) India has put Border Security Force on high alert along the Pakistan border.Media reports quoting Indian officials said the decision had been taken due to forthcoming Republic Day celebrations and allegedly rocket firing incidents near Attari border recently.“We are studying the reports. Patrolling has been increased and BSF is fully alert to deal with any situation. The BSF in the recent past has retaliated adequately to the firing from across the border,” an official said.
Meanwhile, a senior officer in Jammu said a BSF jawan Shurvir Singh was killed in cross- border firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of IHK on Monday.
There was a heavy cross-border firing from Pakistan on Sabzain Forward Defence Location (FDL) along LoC in Poonch district around 1130 hours today, the Army officer alleged.
There were also reports of firing of two rockets on the forward post in the same area at 1135 and 1145 hours respectively, he alleged.
